Ambisonics

Simulation of sound in 3d space

Can we hear a space before we build it? The simulation of sound in three dimensions via a speaker array provides listeners with an immersive sound experience.

Timbre collaborators Bryan Finoki and Nicolas Sowers dubbed this sound simulation room "The Sonodeck" after the famous Holodeck of Star Trek. Artists and architects have collaborated with Timbre to produce virtual experiences previewing the sound of an unbuilt space. A 3d sound field in space feels more natural to our ears compared to headphones, permitting a more immersive and accurate experience.

Timbre designs 3d audio systems for installations and exhibitions.
