The condition of “always on” has produced a demand for self-care services that promise to aid us in “switching off”—e.g. yoga sessions, meditation retreats, and float tanks. A Quiet Room, with the purpose of deflating our mental state, is particularly challenging when situated adjacent to a busy regional airport.

This room was installed during Fleet Week beneath the 126 dB roar of the Blue Angels. Those recorded jet sounds now filter through transducers located in the walls and floor, modulated to provide calm, vibrational bliss. The mix includes live sounds picked up by microphones embedded in the reclaimed pallet cladding: estuary birds, the adjacent golf course, and chickens that roam the site.

The Jet Sound Bath is coming soon! Opening fall 2020, (virus permitting.)
